The International Federation Una Voce awards the Dr. Eric de Saventhem Medal to
Cardinal Juan Sandoval Íñiguez and Sir James MacMillan
Rome, 19/Oct/2024 – The International Federation Una Voce (FIUV) is honored to
announce the presentation of the prestigious Dr. Eric de Saventhem Medal to His
Eminence Cardinal Juan Sandoval Íñiguez and Sir James MacMillan, in recognition
of their significant contributions to the preservation and promotion of the
Traditional Latin Mass within the Catholic Church.
The Dr. Eric de Saventhem Medal, named after the founder-President of Una Voce
International, Eric de Saventhem, is awarded only on rare occasions to
individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the cause of the
Traditional Mass. This honor has previously been awarded to Cardinal Dario
Castrillón Hoyos and Vladimir Ashkenazy, the last surviving signatory of the
1971 petition in defense of the Traditional Mass.
Cardinal Sandoval Íñiguez has shown remarkable dedication in supporting the
faithful who, in harmony with the Church's tradition, remain devoted to the
Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite. His ongoing commitment has been
instrumental in ensuring that these faithful have continued access to the
Traditional Mass within the framework of the Church’s hierarchy, always in full
communion with Pope Francis.
Sir James MacMillan, a Scottish Catholic composer of international renown, has
invested considerable talent and energy into religious music, becoming a
significant voice in sacred music worldwide. His dedication and contributions
to the spiritual and artistic life of the Church have been deeply appreciated
by both the faithful and the broader musical community.
On Monday, 18th September, the President of Una Voce International, Dr. Joseph
Shaw, had the honor of presenting the De Saventhem Medal to Sir James
MacMillan, recognizing his efforts in promoting the sacredness of Catholic
liturgical music.
In times of uncertainty and challenges, both Cardinal Sandoval Íñiguez and Sir
James MacMillan have embodied a deep love for the Church’s liturgy and
tradition. Their work has been a beacon of hope for many faithful across the
globe who are devoted to the spiritual and artistic richness of the Latin Mass.
Una Voce and its national associations in over 40 countries express their
deepest gratitude for the witness and efforts of both honorees, which have
ensured that the Traditional Mass remains a treasure accessible to all those
who seek its beauty and spiritual depth.
The medal presentation ceremony for Cardinal Sandoval Íñiguez will take place
on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, with the participation of Federation
representatives and other ecclesiastical authorities.

Medalla Dr. Eric de Saventhem al Cardenal Juan Sandoval Íñiguez y a Sir James
MacMillan
Roma, 22/Oct/2024 – La Federación Internacional Una Voce (FIUV) tiene el
honor de anunciar la entrega de la prestigiosa Medalla Dr. Eric de Saventhem a
Su Eminencia el Cardenal Juan Sandoval Íñiguez y a Sir James MacMillan, en
reconocimiento a sus significativas contribuciones a la preservación y
promoción de la Misa Tradicional en latín dentro de la Iglesia Católica.
La Medalla Dr. Eric de Saventhem, nombrada en honor al presidente
fundador de Una Voce Internacional, Eric de Saventhem, se otorga solo en raras
ocasiones a personas que han hecho contribuciones sobresalientes a la causa de
la Misa Tradicional. Este honor ha sido otorgado con anterioridad al Cardenal
Darío Castrillón Hoyos y a Vladimir Ashkenazy, el último signatario
sobreviviente de la petición de 1971 en defensa de la Misa Tradicional.
El Cardenal Juan Sandoval Íñiguez ha demostrado una notable dedicación
en el apoyo a los fieles que, en armonía con la tradición de la Iglesia, se
mantienen devotos a la Forma Extraordinaria del Rito Romano. Su compromiso continuo
ha sido fundamental para garantizar que estos fieles tengan acceso a la Misa
